Manchester United could go head-to-head with Barcelona to sign Royal Antwerp midfielder Arthur Vermeeren in January.
The 18-year-old is regarded as one of the best young talents in Belgian football and he is currently a regular starter for Antwerp.
His performances have grabbed the attention of several elite clubs and HLN claim that manager Erik ten Hag really likes him a lot.
The Dutchman has urged United scout to continue monitoring his progress ahead of a possible transfer approach in the New Year.
The Red Devils are likely to face fierce competition from the Catalans, who are also keen admirers of the defensive midfielder.
Xavi has asked the club’s hierarchy to land a quality number six in January and Vermeeren could emerge as a realistic option.
The youngster has been described in Belgium as a mix between Andres Iniesta and Xavi. He could secure a big-club move soon.
Antwerp are unlikely to let him go on the cheap and they are expected to demand at least £20m to sanction his sale this winter.
